Prim Event Studio Interview

Prim Event Studio

Prim Event Studio owner Morgan Miller is a master of creating personalized weddings.  Her weddings are full of life and color.  Morgan is never afraid of taking chances and always stays true to her couples.  She takes the time to get to know what is most important to her clients, then includes it in her designs.  Morgan talked to me about how she takes Bay Area weddings to the next level and what makes the area so special.

Prim Event Studio Owner Morgan Miller

I’m an Morgan Miller, an Oakland, California based wedding planner.  I work with my couples to plan both the logistics and flow of their wedding.  I also help with the design and aesthetic.  From venue selection, to stationery, I help hand pick vendors and design elements.  Of course, I’m also there the day of the wedding to make sure everything flows smoothly.

Prim Event Studio Clients

I work with clients looking for organic, modern, outdoor weddings.  Couples who appreciate special details and design.  The thing that makes their wedding feel customized and reflective of them.

I specialize in understated luxury…so, beautiful weddings that have a lot of TLC, but don’t look or feel overdone.

What makes Prim Event Studio Different

I view this as a collaborative process and make sure to keep the mindset that this is THEIR special day.  I listen to how my clients want their day to look and feel.  We also make sure they’re happy with all our selections.  It’s important for couples to feel like their heard.  Even if they don’t have a design background, they’ll know we consider their ideas.  Then, we’ll turn them into something better than they could have imagined.  It’s my job to take an incomplete or disjointed vision and turn it into something spectacular.

Making Couple’s Personality And Style Shine

There are a lot of different ways to do this!  This could come through in the floral design and color palette.   It could be in details like chargers, glassware or flatware.  Even more obvious areas like a signature cocktail or favorite family dinner.

There are so many ways to make a statement.  We can infuse a bit of your personality into the rental items.  For Example, the text on your bar menu, dinner menu, or seating displays.  It’s my job to translate my couple’s personalities, warmth, and love into non-human objects.  They can emit the same feel as the couple.

Morgan’s Favorite (and not so favorite) Wedding Trends

  • I love a good cake cutting photo.  It’s a fun tradition and who doesn’t love some good cake?
  • Overly rustic Pinterest trends.  Mason jars and burlap has definitely come and gone (hopefully for good).
  • Sometimes the bouquet and garter toss (omg so awkward) are better skipped!
  • I love the minimalist trend as a believer in investing in “fewer, better” pieces for your day.

What Makes Bay Area Weddings Special

You can find a venue for every personality.  From gritty, industrial to elegant and lavish, indoor and outdoor – there’s a venue for everyone!

Making Out Of Town Guests Feel At Home

If in the budget, hosting a welcome party the night before the wedding is a wonderful idea.  It’s a great way to see and spend time with all your out of town guests.  Make sure to include a list of activities and restaurants your guests can check out on their own time.  It helps them feel more comfortable in a new area.

Why Get Married in The Bay Area

We have great weather almost year round.  It’s a place so many guests are excited to visit and explore.  San Francisco, Marin, and the famous Napa Valley are great destinations.  Despite traffic, it’s also pretty easy for guests to navigate with rideshare options.

Downsides Of A Bay Area Wedding

It’s one of the more expensive places to get married in the United States.  Know your priorities and have a realistic budget for what you are looking for.  Is it possible to have an inexpensive wedding here, of course! But know it your money doesn’t go as far as other places.

Favorite Venues In The Bay Area?

There are so many great ones!  I love the Flood Mansion for the quintessential old school San Francisco aesthetic.  Brasswood in Saint Helena is great for a modern wine country experience.  Olympia’s Valley Estate is wonderful for a more rustic feel.

Bringing The Bay Area Experience To Your Wedding

Many couples opt for farm to table meals that feel very organic.  They work with caterers that source local and sustainable ingredients.  Trolley car rentals are popular for guest transportation.  Finally, serve wines from Napa/Sonoma/Carmel Valley and the Central Coast!

Logistical Issues Of A Bay Area Wedding

Traffic will always have to be taken into account for guests arriving on their own, and with shuttles.  It’s also important to consider the fog that rolls in over the coast in the evenings.  It can get rather chilly so tents or heaters and blankets become necessary.
Wine country is popular, especially during the harvest season in September and October.  Be sure to set up room blocks for your guests to help them out with bookings.

The Best Time Of Year For A Bay Area Wedding

I love springtime in general for all the flowers! We have one of the best flower marts in the country.  Our amazing floral designers source a lot locally.  It leads to some of the freshest arrangements.  But I also love a good winter city wedding over candlelight.

Telling The Couples Story Through Photography

I brief the photographer on the important tidbits that us and our couples hand-select.  Things like the memorial seat for the bride’s mother who has passed.  The tarot place cards at each setting to pay homage to the mysticism of the couple.  Or the special dinner wine gifted to our couple from their uncle’s vineyard.
